Understanding and controlling the spread of diseases in the 21st century is going to be a hugely data-intensive challenge. This challenge will depend crucially on our ability to collect, parse, filter, mine and make sense of vast amounts of data. Data Science - a term colloquially used to describe this process - will help us turn the data deluge into new knowledge. The challenges are enormous, but so is the potential of this newly emerging field.
At this workshop, hosted by the Center of Infectious Disease Dynamics (CIDD) at Penn State University and organized by Marcel Salathé, the goal is to exchange ideas, discuss future projects, and to learn from experiences of past successes (and challenges) from key players in the field.
